The title of this comes from a story about Steve Jobs and the original Macintosh team. Highly suggested reading if you haven’t heard about it already. Here’s the link to the story on folklore.org. And here’s the link to Walter Isaacson’s full biography of Steve Jobs, which is absolutely fabulous.
I was reminded of this while listening to the latest episode of Akimbo. Seth recommends that one blog every day to get in the habit of shipping something, of showing up and doing the work of having something to say.
For me, shipping has been one of my greatest weaknesses, perhaps THE greatest. “Paralysis by analysis” is the perfect term for it. I get so caught up in making sure I do the absolute best thing that I often end up doing nothing at all.
This summer, I intend to actively combat that. One of the strategies will be to ship a blog post every day. I’ll try to make it useful, so not a “today, I did xyz…”-type of post. Along the same lines of Seth’s blog, though obviously not of the same quality. Subject matter will be extremely scattered, whatever I’m thinking of each day.
